1 Nephi 19

Chapter 19

Nephi makes plates of ore and records the history of his people—The God of Israel will come six hundred years from the time Lehi left Jerusalem—Nephi tells of His sufferings and crucifixion—The Jews will be despised and scattered until the latter days, when they will return unto the Lord. About 588–570 B.C.

What a great chapter filled with faith, obedience, record keeping (Scriptures), prophets, prophecies, protection from the Lord, the Savior, the house of Israel...Wow- who knew you could squeeze so many things onto a small chapter!

But - the thing that struck me were actually the first words of the chapter:  And it came to pass that the Lord commanded me, wherefore I did

Simple.  The Lord asks and you do it.

  1. Besides Nephi's comment of having weak joints... and this I relate to....

I caught on to the part where he says that some men esteem certain things to be holy or important while other men trample those same ideals under their feet. What immediately came to mind was all this "occupy wallstreet" and other "occupy" places.

Not to get into a lot of political discussion... but I esteem patriotism and love of God and country as hugely important in my life. Family, religious freedom, freedom in general.... and yes, those people have the freedom to trample such important things under their feet. It's just sad to see it. It's just another sign that our country is headed for that "hanging by a thread" or already it.

  2. verse 9 made me feel Jesus Christ's great love for us. He went through so much suffering for us, and he suffereth it all "because of his loving kindness and his long suffering towards the children of men." He is the greatest.

I also noted verse 7 when it speaks of some people trampling and setting at naught things that others esteem to be of great worth. That is certainly the case with the gospel and a large majority of the wicked world today. And in verse 9 it says the world thought Jesus to be a thing of naught. How many kids today know the true meaning of christmas? That its about celebrating Christ's birth, and not presents or santa claus? How many people use his name in vain thinking it is just a phrase, not an actual persons name? To die for those who love him is one thing, but Jesus also suffered and died for all those who consider him to be a thing of naught as well. Now that is true love!
