Helaman 4

Helaman 4

This is one of those chapter that I call bottom-line chapters.  It gets right to the point:

Pride is bad. It convinces us we are strong and we don't need God. It also leads to other transgressions. God withdrawals. Alone we are weak and do not prosper.

I know we call this "The Nephite Cycle" but perhaps it should be more aptly named "The Human Cycle." We are all prone to pride at one level or another. This chapter is a fantastic and very clear warning against pride.

Tomorrow: Helaman 5

  1. My favorite verse in this chapter is number 12. While it was the intent to tell all about the things the people were NOT doing.... it is a very straightforward guide on all the things we SHOULD be doing.

    Being humble
Honoring and thanking God for our blessings
    Compassionate service
Being kind to the poor and needy
    Being gentle and peaceful
    Upholding sacred things
    Recognizing the spirit of revelation
    Obeying the 10 commandments

Learning from the mistakes of others is so much easier than having to go through it ourselves. This is a great chapter for recognizing where we need to be headed by looking at the destruction caused by going in the opposite direction.
