3 Nephi 2

3 Nephi 2

How quick they were to forget the signs that they had seen!  How many of us would never do that!  And yet, how quickly we forget the impressions that we felt just last year, or the experience we had last month, or the answer we received yesterday? When we don't continually nourish our spiritual memory, we forget.

The price of forgetfulness is a hardened heart and blind eyes. We basically lose the ability to feel and see things of a spiritual nature.  How scary is that!  We are not only left to our own devices, but to the influence of the Devil.

This chapter is a great reminder to always remember the experiences and answers that I have had in the past.

I LOVED your comments yesterday!  What did you all think about this chapter?

TOMORROW: 3 Nephi 3

  1. How many times have we heard that God works through others to bless us? We have the opportunity to be God's hands here on earth. How important it is for us to listen and act upon those moments.

And then these verses really stuck out...........

2 Imagining up some vain thing in their hearts, that it was wrought by men and by the power of the devil, to lead away and deceive the hearts of the people....
3 ..... Satan did ago about, leading away the hearts of the people, tempting them and causing them that they should do great wickedness in the land.

I believe that Satan also has his hand's here on earth. We have to be SO careful not to be led astray by others. And it is not the big things....

I don't watch the nightly news. It is too depressing. If I want to know something I will go look it up. I recognize that surrounding myself with more "stress" of the world really causes my attitude to suffer. To me, this is being led astray by men. If it causes my attitude to suffer, how can I be open to hear the spirit?

Have you ever gotten caught up in a conversation in which you end up gossiping or hearing gossip? This is being led astray by men. I really don't think Satan is standing there telling folks what to say, they already have put his work in motion by their willingness. Satan doesn't have to work as hard on folks who already are open to saying or doing things which further his purposes.

    Yelling at the kids
    Be angry with the husband
    Frustration in traffic
Letting a scene on the TV slide by
    Down on ourselves
    and....

All pretty much "little" things.... but they all open us up to being in such a mood that when something else hits us we aren't armed with our whole armor. For me, it's letting one stressful thing pile onto another until I find myself having one of "those" days. Then I am more easily angered, frustrated, snippy or just silent. That causes my family to start having the same issues.... me, not Satan, leading them astray. Satan just sits back and laughs as God cries.

  2. This chapter is all about the consequences of "forgetting". After I had read v 1,
I turned to the sacrament prayers. The scrament prayers are about remembering.

What incredible blessings come from remembering, "that we may always have his Spirit to be with" us. I don't think we can be given a better/greater blessing.

I think that is why we have the opportunity to partake of the sacrament on a weekly basis. My personal challenge is to "remember" past Sunday.

I love the talk by Elder Eyring called "O Remember, Remember." At the end of each day he asks himself "Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?" He said his testimony is strengthened as he recognizes and remembers how much God loves him and is willing to help him and his family on a daily basis. Remembering is a minute by minute, day by day task. It is important that we remember past blessings from the Lord, or past promptings or impressions. We need to be worthy to have the Holy Ghost with us to help us recognize and remember the hand of the Lord in our lives. This chapter really drives that home as you watch their hearts harden as they forget the blessings of the Lord. It is easy, in this fast paced, crazy world to forget that everything comes from HIM who loves us and blesses us more than we even recognize. Even if I don't write it down, I am going to ask myself each night to remember how the Lord has touched my family that day. It would be a great thing to talk about after scripture study with our family.
