I loved this chapter. Especially after we had an exceptional Gospel Doctrine lesson today about the Book of Mormon. I'm fired up! (In the good way!)
There was a lot of great things in this chapter, but the one verse that stood out to me today was verse 33:...and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness..."
His invitation is to everyone, of every race, of every economic class, of every personality - every one. The Atonement wasn't just for the few or the righteous. We are all imperfect. We all need it. We all need him.
I was talking to someone today about a missionary experience. The person I was talking to referred the less-active member as "the negative guy" who had a bad attitude and probably wouldn't come back.
Perhaps it wasn't my place, but I rebuked him (I love that word, lol) in a loving way. It isn't our place to judge people. We cannot say where they will end up, or even what they deserve then or now, from the small picture that we see of them through our own tainted eyes.
He, like everyone else, has the right- as given by the Savior Himself- to have the blessings of the Atonement on our lives. It is our job to help as many people obtain the blessings and the goodness that the Savior is offering them.
Maybe I went kinda rogue on this one, but that's where my mind is today.
What did you think/learn today?
Something in Verse 7 really struck me. "....but I must cry unto my God: Thy ways are just." I think this phrase can be used in our own lives. Do we sometimes think God is being unfair in life? Nephi is trying to teach us something here. God is always fair. He says so in verse 24, which is another one I marked. "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world, for he loveth the world..."
ReplyDeleteAnother one that jumped out - verse 30 "...And except they should have charity, they were nothing." The importance of having charity is talked about a lot in the scriptures. We can never have too much charity for others.
I think the visual contrast between the the flaxen cord leading people down to hell and the Savior's shining light of love for every single person is what struck me this morning.
ReplyDeleteThere was alot to take in while reading this chapter. Unfortunately, in my world, the evil of men is so profound at times that all I can do is hold onto the fact that my Savior loves me and my family, and that, that is all we have to really count on.
