Jacob 7

Jacob 7

I wonder where Sherem came from.  Was he  Lamanite?  Because it seems the Nephite goup didn't know him.

The two things that caught my eye were 1. that even though Jacob saw angels and even heard the voice of the Lord, it was the Holy Ghost through which he gained his testimony (12)

and in verses 10,11 and 23 he uses the scriptures to teach.

Love that.

I gotta run this morning, but I'll be back later today to comment more.  Such a good chapter!

  1. I read this chapter with my husband last night, and afterwards we talked about what lessons we could learn from it. I think we learnt that despite what others may say to us about our beliefs, we need to be like Jacob in verse 5 - 'wherefore, I could not be shaken.'
Also that only good things come from believing in Christ - as it says in verse 23 - 'peace and the love of God was restored....and they searched the scriptures.'
Lastly, that when God feels it necessary to step in and change the hearts of those who seek to destroy his church, he will do so. This has happened several times in the scriptures - Saul/Paul in the Bible, Alma the Younger in the Book of Mormon etc. And he does it all for his children, so that they can stay strong in their testimonies and be saved. God is in control, and Satan cannot stop his work.
