4 Nephi

4 Nephi

Do you think it is coincidence that it took about 240 for a Christ-loving Nephite nation to fall into disbelief, and it's been  just about 240 years for our country to do the same?

In verses 15 and 16 it talks about why they were successful: because the love of God dwelt in their hearts.  In verse 34 it explains the reason for their demise: they hardened their hearts. It seems so easy as we read it in black and white, yet it is so hard for people living it to see in in their lives.

The hardness in their hearts did not allow them to see the miracles around them. It didn't allow them to feel the Spirit- or the love of God.  It started small and grew until it turned into hatred and Satan gained power over them.

As I see it, there is either God or Mammon- we cannot serve both.  There is no empty space in our heart.  It is either filled with the love of God, or it is hardened. The question is, what is your ration?

What part of this chapter got into you today?

Amen! It is sad to see our country in such a state. I do feel that the Savior's 2nd coming is not that far away. We will have to have faith in the Savior and a true testimony of the gospel to make it through whatever comes. We can be happy if we are doing what the Savior would have us do.
Love your thoughts on 4 Nephi.

  2. Been reading. Not a whole lot of commenting time.

This chapter is just a clear example of why things are the way they are in the world we live in today. Scarey... and yet... some how oddly comforting because it is what it is and has been prophesied to be so.

We can only do what we can to influence our own little sphere. Worrying about the whole pie will get you as far as it did the writer(s) of this chapter.

  3. One of the definitions of "hard" is to be unfeeling.

It would appear that the people could no longer feel the Holy Ghost. I believe that is why they were "hardened"

I wonder why they chose a life style(?) that hardened their hearts?
It would seem that their prosperity drew them away from the true church.
I am keenly aware of the abundance that I enjoy, I must work very hard not to allow the "things" of the world lead me away from the Gospel.

I hope that I recognise the miracles that about us on a daily basis, that my heart has not become hardened, that I can feel the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
