"Safety for the Soul" Jeffery R. Holland
Read 'Safety for the Soul" here.
I love this talk. I was actually attending conference in Salt Lake during this particular conference. Unfortunately, we didn't have tickets for this particular session. We watched it in the hotel room, a mile away from where Elder Holland was speaking. I have to say, I know we aren't supposed to have favorites, but Elder Holland has a dear, sweet place in my heart.
I love his power, his testimony, his delivery. I just love him.
Anyway- back to the article:
This sentence is the Bottom Line: I testify that one cannot come to full faith in this latter-day work—and thereby find the fullest measure of peace and comfort in these, our times—until he or she embraces the divinity of the Book of Mormon and the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom it testifies.
I love his boldness here: If anyone is foolish enough or misled enough to reject 531 pages of a heretofore unknown text teeming with literary and Semitic complexity without honestly attempting to account for the origin of those pages—especially without accounting for their powerful witness of Jesus Christ and the profound spiritual impact that witness has had on what is now tens of millions of readers—if that is the case, then such a person, elect or otherwise, has been deceived; and if he or she leaves this Church, it must be done by crawling over or under or around the Book of Mormon to make that exit.
Here is his testimony: I ask that my testimony of the Book of Mormon and all that it implies, given today under my own oath and office, be recorded by men on earth and angels in heaven. I hope I have a few years left in my “last days,” but whether I do or do not, I want it absolutely clear when I stand before the judgment bar of God that I declared to the world, in the most straightforward language I could summon, that the Book of Mormon is true, that it came forth the way Joseph said it came forth and was given to bring happiness and hope to the faithful in the travail of the latter days
I want to add my testimony to his- that I do not doubt the truthfulness and reality of this book. I love this talk- especially to watch it. His passion and love for the book is undeniable, and stirring to my soul. I hope you enjoyed it, too.

For me, I always had a testimony of the Book of Mormon. But until I started reading it (almost) daily a couple of years ago, I didn't understand the powerful influence it could have in my life. I have tried reading the Bible and D&C daily at times, but it is nowhere near the same influence on me. I found I previously had a "logical" testimony and now I have a "heart" testimony of the Book of Mormon.
ReplyDeleteThe words "Safety for the Soul" makes me think about the line in the song "Choose the Right." But certainly the Book of Mormon is also safety for our souls. It helps keep us safe from the adversary. It truly is another witness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
