Alma 62
Alma 62
4,5-"And he did raise the standard of liberty in whatsoever place he did enter...and it came to pass that thousands did flock unto his standard." I read this and think of the power that we- and especially our youth- have in the world today. No matter where we go or what we do, we must adhere to our standards and our faith. People will notice, be curious, be inspired. They will see our peace and perspective, and desire to have what we do.
17- The power of an oath keeps impressing me. The Laminites that were just trying to kill the Nephites promise they won't try anymore, so they let them go. Not only do they let them go, but they go and live with the people of Ammon. They took these Lamanites in and let them live among them. Amazing story of forgiveness and tolerance. Talk about not holding grudges!
36- Teancum's end is a sad one. He was a good man that fought valiantly- but he acted in rashness and paid the ultimate price.
41- The power of prayer unto saving- amazing.
42- This verse really stuck out to me out of the entire chapter. These Nephites all went through the same war; some were scarred, yet others were strengthened. It's a testament to me that it isn't our circumstances that matter as much as our perspective (a great thing to here, since I had a totally terrible and sad pity part the other day. But, luckily God helped me changed my perspective and I am feeling much better!) Perspective is such a powerful thing. I think of Anne Frank, Victor Frankel, etc. We have the power to choose to be happy in any circumstance we are in. It's not easy- but we have been given the power to do it by God.
51- And after all this, they did pray continually. This verse dovetails perfectly into our topic/talk for Monday- Prayer.

I am sitting here listening to the thunder boom outside and watching the rain come down. I don't have any profound spiritual thoughts from this chapter. Just wondering how in the space of a day things can changed so much. One day the Lamanites are trying to kill and the next day living as neighbors. Sometimes I wish we had more to the story.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I noticed in this chapter was how at the end it said the people were prospering greatly etc and they didn't forget God and didn't get prideful. That is quite out of the ordinary for them. Usually its the cycle of prosper, get rich, forget God, get prideful, start getting slaughtered by the Lamanites, having challenges, then remembering God again and becoming humble. So it was really nice to see that this time they didn't forget that it was God that helped them to prosper and that they stayed righteous. We need to ever be thankful to God for all his blessings to us every day.
