Ether 12:29-41
Ether 12:29-41
I got up this morning to see my kids off to seminary, and made the mistake of watching the national news. The world is becoming an ever-increasing volatile and wicked place. And it's scary.
Then, I read verse 29, I felt immediate peace. It reads: And I, Moroni, having heard these words (verses 26-28), was comforted and said: O Lord, they righteous will be done, for I know that thou workest unto the children of men according to their faith.
Moroni lived in a land surrounded completely by wickedness. He was the only righteous one left. His family had been killed. He had no home. He didn't even know how long he would live before he was killed, her perhaps died of starvation. and yet, even in his perilous state, he gained comfort form these words.
I found comfort in them this morning as well.
I am more aware now, then ever, that we are standing at the precipice of, if not already in the middle, the winding up of the Last Days. The truth is- as prophesied for thousands of years - that things will get tougher, the people will get more wicked, and things, as we know them, will change.
BUT- we shall not fear if we have faith.
Moroni lost all he possessed- including family - and he maintained his faith, and therefore maintained comfort, and even joy, in the midst of his sorrow.
Moroni was concerned for whose who chose not the Lord, and prayed that they might have charity. The Lord answered in a way that wasn't very typical, in verse 37.
He basically said, You know, it doesn't really matter if they do or not, you have been faithful- you have been humble and you will have eternal life.
It's eternal perspective.
And that's what I need to- work on having the eternal perspective.

- The key is to not let our hearts fail us.
- Get your homes in order.
- Stay close the Heavenly Father.
- Follow the counsel of the Prophet.
- Be humble and faithful in your church service.
- Have charity towards others - even those who choose differently than us.
- And have faith.
