2 Nephi 5

Chapter 5

The Nephites separate themselves from the Lamanites, keep the law of Moses, and build a temple—Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cut off from the presence of the Lord, are cursed, and become a scourge unto the Nephites. About 588–559 B.C.

Sad as it is, this chapter gives new meaning to sibling rivalry.  Now I look at my childrens' teasing like they are just little angels singing!  Seriously, though- I can't imagine what it would be like to have your own brothers wanting to kill your father, and then you.  How horrible for Nephi. How heartbreaking!

Verse 11 - "And the Lord was with us..."  They kept the commandments of God and cried much unto Him (vv 10 &1) and in return they were blessed.

What faith to be able to see and acknowledge His hand in their lives even during the toughest of times.

I love how in verse 15 Nephi says that he taught his people to work.  Industrious people are happy people. It's ingrained in us to prosper and grow.

Verse 26 - the Priesthood in action 2500 years ago.

  1. I am pretty awed that it is already December 1st. I am not sure why time speeds by so quickly. And then to realize that Nephi's family left for the wilderness and the Lamanites were "formed" in less than 30 years. Somedays, yesterday, it's overwhelming with the ups and downs of the roller coaster I can't seem to get off of....

I wonder if Nephi shook his head and wondered how "all" this could have happened in less than 30 years?

  2. I like how in verse 6 Nephi talks about how he had sisters, and that they went with him.

Also I didn't remember that one of the reasons the Lord changed the Lamanites skin to dark was so the Nephites wouldn't find them enticing and wouldn't want to marry into their wicked family.

And verse 10 and 11 give us yet another example of how when we keep the commandments, the Lord is with us and we prosper.
