2 Nephi 25

Chapter 25

Nephi glories in plainness—Isaiah’s prophecies will be understood in the last days—The Jews will return from Babylon, crucify the Messiah, and be scattered and scourged—They will be restored when they believe in the Messiah—He will first come six hundred years after Lehi left Jerusalem—The Nephites keep the law of Moses and believe in Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel. About 559–545 B.C.

I love how Nephi glories in plainness.  I do too.  I love the simplicity of the gospel, the beauty of it.

This chapter is full of clarification of Isaiah's prophecies: the Jews, the Savior's crucifixion, the scattering and gathering of Israel, the first and Second Coming and so much more! In fact, this chapter is so big, that I'm going to take the weekend to finish reading it.  But I did want to share one of my favorite quotes that speaks to the plainness that Nephi and I love so much.

It's President John Taylor, who said, "It is true intelligence for a man to take a subject that is mysterious and great in itself, and to unfold and simplify it so that a child can understand it."

There is beauty in deep doctrine and the mysteries of God.  But there is also beauty in the simplicity of it all.  That's one of the reasons I love Nephi and his writings, because they are clear, concise and beautiful.

  1. I love that Nephi makes it sound so easy. There are those days that everything is overwhelming and you cannot see the forest for the trees, much less keep a good attitude! When I read a chapter like this, it is so full of hope and rejoicing that it can lighten any worried heart.

  2. Happy New Year!!! One little line really jumped out at me in this chapter. Verse 25 "...we are made alive in Christ because of our faith..." I know that knowing Christ makes me feel alive, and gives me hope. Knowing that he is always there to help me makes a huge difference in my life. I would be lost without him. The other verse that I really liked was verse 29 "...Christ is the Holy One of Israel, wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT, MIND AND STRENGTH, AND YOUR WHOLE SOUL and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out." How do we worship him like this? With everything we have? He must be the core of our lives and in our thoughts always. We need to put off the natural man. It is a challenge, but he is certainly deserving of our everything. What a great goal for 2012!
