2 Nephi 10

Chapter 10

The Jews will crucify their God—They will be scattered until they begin to believe in him—America will be a land of liberty where no king will rule—Reconcile yourselves to God and gain salvation through his grace. About 559–545 B.C.

I wonder if the Jews that lived at the time of Christ feel bad when they read verse 3.

The one line that stuck out to me today was in verse 16: "for they who are not for me are against me..."

There is no grey area, no middle ground.  The Lord had made it clear that there are two teams: for or against, God or mammon.  He doesn't like lukewarm either.  In Revelation he talks about spewing them out.

It's that old axiom, "inaction is action."

It makes me look at my life and what I am doing and not doing.  Which side does that put me on? What team does it put me on?

I want to make sure that all I do puts me safely and solely on his team.

What did you think/learn today,

  1. "Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves- to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life."

It's been a week chock full of "people" drama in my little world- this comment not talking about my house thankfully. I have had the opportunity to stand back and watch how the choices people make have devastated those around them. Lying, cheating, stealing, infidelity.... just to name a few. Many opportunities to talk with my kids and point out the path of destruction and what it has done to those around us. Not to judge, just to teach.

We are free to act. Free to choose. But those choices we make must, must be made with the Lord's guiding influence or it is way to easy to veer off into the wrong train of thought, the wrong path of action. To have the Lord's guidance, we must be living our lives connected to His will, His commandments, His influence in our life.

I know when I make a choice, usually saying something I shouldn't, I do not have a cheerful heart. No cheerful heart equates to no cheerful attitude which follows with no Spirit to guide and continues on with no peace... etc. My goal is to keep my mouth shut, my heart cheerful, and my ears open to what God wants me to do. It's easier that way.

  2. That was really interesting reading in verses 3-6 about how if Christ had come to other nations, they would have repented and not crucified him; and that the Jewish nation was one of the most wicked.

I liked verse 14 - I the Lord, the king of heaven, will be their king, and I will be a light unto them forever, that hear my words.
