The destruction of Assyria is a type of the destruction of the wicked at the Second Coming—Few people will be left after the Lord comes again—The remnant of Jacob will return in that day—Compare Isaiah 10. About 559–545 B.C.

I like verse 16 when he says he'll send among the fat ones. Makes me feel not so bad about eating so many Christmas goodies!
I read about the OT times and I often think how their world was so different than ours today. But, here the Lord is trying to give us a warning today. Wickedness and righteousness have always been on the earth. The great news is that, at some point, only righteousness will remain. I'm excited for that.
What did you think/learn today?
There was another warning about the widows, poor and needy. I could go off on a big discourse on politics and the parallels of their day vs our day. So... I am not. If you simply look around us, it's not hard to find the similarities. The blessing is.... that even though there's trouble ahead, with the gospel, we can have peace as we face it. Recognizing and understanding it is what it is and what it will be actually gives me a certain level of peace because I know that with the Lord's guidance, it will all be ok in the end.
