Jacob 1

Read online here

I really like Jacob. He was a no-frills kinda guy. He was given a responsibility, and he took it (vs 8), and beyond that, made sure he had the proper authority (17-18) he went out working as hard as he could (19) to fulfill his duty.

He didn't complain; he worked. I admire that. You get a calling, you accept it and serve. It's how we learn, grow and share.  It's how we show our love for Him and gratitude.

(Paragraph-long rant about people who are willing to take all the church and its members have to offer and not serve/give in return deleted here for fear it would chase away the Spirit)

We each made a promise when we were baptized that we would take upon ourselves His name. That means we do what we are asked to do by Him.

Anyhow-- I do love Jacob and his willingness to serve. He truly loved those he served, but He knew the deeper meaning: that when we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are only in the service of our God.

Question to ponder: What do you think Jacob mean in verse 4 when he said "for Christs' sake"?

Comments

  1. I think the verse Moses 1:39 may be what Jacob was referring to.on verse 4.
As I read this previously under-lined words popped out; diligently, responsibility and Ithink that's who Jacob was. A great example.

  2. Prophesying and revelations because of great faith and "anxiety"... Interesting way to state that. I took it as the leaders really worrying over the people. I know we don't automatically get answers to prayer without thinking on things for a while. So I didn't take it as it's okay to be filled with anxiety, but rather, it's okay to think and ponder on an important issue for a while.
