2 Nephi 33

Read online here

Strangely enough, I felt a tinge of sadness this morning. I didn't want to say good-bye to Nephi. Every time I study his words I feel like I get to know him a little better, and become more familiar with him--and I'm not ready to be done with him yet.

But he's ready.

This chapter is his final farewell, and what a beautiful one it is.

He speaks of the thing of greatest import: The power of the Holy Ghost, the truthfulness of the scriptures which he has written, charity and his intentions, the necessity to believe in Jesus Christ and judgement.

I love the very last sentence, for it really sums up who Nephi was at the core: for thus hath the Lord commended me, and I must obey. Amen.

That's Nephi's bottom line: obedience. He didn't merely act obedient, he was an obedient man.

Ezra Taft Benson once said, "When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power."

I love that quote.  It's so true, and Nephi was living proof of it.

He has inspired my testimony of my Savior, and strengthened by quest to be obedient in all things. And for that, I will be eternally grateful.

  2. I love the scriptures and the Book of Mormon. Today we read this chapter as a family. What an awesome realization that Nephi is speaking to us! The gospel makes us happy. The Book of Mormon has such beautiful, simple truths that our youngest son can explain them to us. Happy day!!!
