Mosiah 29

Mosiah 29

It's interesting that Mormon decides to put most of Mosiah's letter word for word, rather than summing it all up.  His own words show his humility and the love and concern he had for his people. Sometimes I forget that these aren't just great stories, but that they were real people.  He was inspired to set up the government by the voice of the people, with judges and judge, and systems in place to ensure fair and appropriate judging by all and for all.

He gloried in following God, in liberty and the freedom to choose.

Verse 27 is eerily similar to the direction of this great land today, "And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you..."  Things are changing here- and not for the better.  The tide of standards and integrity are receding, the voice of the people is crying louder and louder for redefining of family, stripping away the rights of the workers and people's freedom to choose.  They are being tricked into thinking that this is a new form of enlightenment, and "upgrade" to how things have been done in the past.

Not so.

God's standards will never change.

Anyway- I don't want this to become a political thing.  I just thought that was a interesting point.

What did you think/learn today?

  1. How can you read this chapter and not think politically?? It's a scarey, cryin' shame where our country is at and where it is headed. For me, this chapter simply reinforces the desire I have to live closer to the Lord every day so as the world around me crumbles, I can be better prepared mentally, temporally and spiritually. If only we had someone as strong and righteous as Mosiah to choose as a president....

  2. I think the people were so blessed to have Mosiah as their King. He must have been an amazing man for them to say "they did esteem him more than any other man.." He is a great example for us to look up to. Oh to be able to have people say that about us, because we loved our fellow men and treated them fairly like our saviour did. I imagine there was great mourning among the people when Mosiah died. And Alma also. Now we have their righteous sons to read about.
