Mosiah 18

Read online here

I love the consistency of the Lord and the eternal nature of Him and His church.  I taught a lesson just last Sunday for Gospel Principles about the church in the time of Jesus Christ, and what the important elements are.  Among them were ones found here, in the Church of Christ. They are:

Priesthood authority- verse 18
Gospel teaching- verses 1-2
Faith and Repentance
Baptism by immersion- verse 14-15
The Gift of the Holy Ghost- verse 16

I think sometimes we see the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as "our" church, a modern church of this day. But, in reality, it is God and Jesus's church which has been around since before the world was, and has merely been established at different times throughout earth's history. Adam has all these above things, as did many people throughout history.

Of course, we have the fullness, things that Alma didn't have, and the gospel will never be taken away from the earth, as it has in the past. That is what makes this time so special. The Church is here to stay, and we are gearing up for the coming of the Head of the Church to reign in person.

Never has there been a more exciting time to be a member of His church in all of history!

A few other things to note in this chapter:

Verse 1- From the moment Alma repented, he was DOING. He didn't just repent and go back home, but he taught and worked and served.  His faith was a faith of doing. That's the power of faith. It moves us to action. If we are not DOING, then we need to take a deep look at the level of our faith in and commitment to what we believe and strengthen them.

And of course, I love verse 30, for it speaks to the beauty that comes upon people who believe in Christ. There is a change that comes over our souls when we come to Him.

  1. I was taken in by the whole picture of how amazing it would have been to be with the 200+ people who were being baptised in the waters of Mormon. I can only imagine how strong the spirit would have been!
