The beginning of this chapter sounds vaguely and recently familiar.....
Verse 12 teaches us that we must not only recognize our enemies for who they are, but we should be prepared to battle against them.
I love that Alma went and fought with his people. He didn't sit back and watch it happen. He loved them, and he wanted to fight with them.
What a terrible civil war this must have been. There were, most likely, friends killing friends, brothers killing brothers. I think it is easy to become removed as we read about the wars, but the realities of their relationships and the savagery and the sorrow that accompanied these wars must have been horrific and heartbreaking.
I love the example of faith that Alma shows in verse 30. He is fighting Amlici, face to face, and prayed not that his life will just be spared, or that pain would go away, but that he could live so he could save his people. Because of that faith, the Lord strengthened him, and he was victorious.
I my life, one of my most fervent prayers is that I can be a tool in God's hands in helping those around me. I know that as I keep that as my focus, He supports and sustains me daily. I can feel His faith in me as He strengthens me, and it brings me closer to Him.
