Alma 4

Read online here

Isn't it interesting how different people react to tragedy.

The Amlicites hardened their hearts and turned away from God. They were filled with hate and misery.

The Nephites grew closer to God, focused on their duty and testimonies. Even in their sorrow, they could feel joy and be blessed.

There is great power in perspective.

And how easy it is to lose that perspective.

I love in verse 15 how "the Spirit of the Lord did not fail" Alma in his time of need. He was surrounded by the people he loved and had baptized fall away. He had done all he could, calling teachers and priests to guide them, and yet many still left.

It was too much to bear from the judgement seat, so Alma stepped down and got into the trenches, once again, to save his people. He fought for them and with them. What a good man!

  1. I always appreciate the reminder to not get caught in the "pride cycle." It is a dangerous game for sure.
