Mosiah 2:1-21

I broke this up so as to spend more time with King Benjamin. I love his words and his teachings.

Of course I love how every man had his tent pitched towards the temple.  Next to that verse I wrote a question: Am I faced in the right direction to hear the counsel of my leaders?

I am, and I am so grateful for it. Especially on the heels of such an amazing conference. I felt I learned to much, and am so motivated to do better, be better. (And now I know how to stuff a turkey--not through the beak, lol!)

To trifle means to treat something without seriousness or respect. In verse 9, King Benjamin made it clear that he didn't command them to come so they would be casual in their listening--his intent was for them to listen and obey him.

I can imagine that must be how President Monson feels as he stands before us. I know on a smaller scale. that is how our Bishop feels. When he feels he has been impressed to relay a message, he doesn't want it to be received casually. I doesn't want the people to trifle with his words, because they are not his words, but the Lord's words. And when the Lord speaks it is for a reason.

The Lord doesn't do small talk.

  1. How amazing our country would be if the leaders took a lesson from King Benjamin and made their leadership about serving the Lord and serving the people than moving on their own selfish agendas. I could not help but think about the peace in the land when Benjamin was in charge and how wonderful that must have been.

I am quite sure there was still heartaches, sickness and the occasional personal tragedy. But if the overall attitude was one of service and peaceful living with each other, then those moments we all have to face on a personal level, would have been made easier to bear because of the the attitude and help of those around them.

  2. While he's telling them to hearken to his words, he also says "open your ears that ye may hear, and YOUR HEARTS THAT YE MAY UNDERSTAND, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view." How many times do we try to "figure it out" with our minds when what we should do is take in the counsel or whatever else it is that we are pondering with our ears and our minds, but then we need to let our HEARTS do the understanding. Instead of thinking things through, maybe we need to just stop and feel and let our hearts talk to us.
