2 Nephi 17

Immediately I was struck by verse 9: If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.
I think that is a truth that transcends the conversation and speaks to life. When we choose not to believe in the Lord and His purposes, we will not have a foundation to stand on. We will not be 'established,' strong, firm, or immovable.
The prophecy in verses 14-16 were fulfilled in Matthew 1:23.
Immanuel is the title that describes Jehovah's mission in mortality. In Hebrew the correct interpretation is Emmauel. Both mean 'God with us.'
Personal update: I think I'm nearly completely over the flu. Holy cow, that was awful! On a happier note, my conference went well. I pitched my fiction manuscript to two publishers and they both asked to see it. I also pitched a non-fiction piece I'm working on to one of the publishers, and they are interested in that one as well. So exciting!

Going to start with random question(s)... The Old Testament- Did the Jews have access to it and the prophecies of Isaiah? Or was he just going around "speaking" instead of the written word? At what point would the people have actually been able to read and study the scriptures like we can now?
ReplyDeleteDave and I are studying the signs of the second coming and it is comforting to have the scriptures to refer to. Makes it easier to remind myself of things, instead of relying on my memory or a talk in church. Guess that is why we are told to regularly study the scriptures - so we don't forget. I just wondered if the people of Jeruselem had that same opportunity or did they forget because they could not look things up if they had a question.
This chapter reminds me of why I love Isaiah and the scriptures. Heavenly Father knows and loves me, He speaks to me in a language that I understand. Not that I understand Isaiah always, but he uses words and metaphors that "speak" to me. I just love the reference to nature and even to food :)
ReplyDeleteI can feel the trees moving with the wind, especially after the storm that blew through her yesterday. I know that Jesus needed to be taught directly by God and that that is the richness of the butter and the sweetness of the honey.
I feel the comfort of this chapter, with the challenges of the times being temporary, vs 7 and to "take heed and and be quiet" vs 4. And the counsel to "dig in" in vs 24, so the briers don't overtake me.
I really think that Isaiah is to me, in my own way the glory of Handel's Messiah. I just love the way he speaks to me through God's creations!
Sweet joy for the day!
I believe they had the words of Moses. And they were only in the sinagogs. (sp)
