2 Nephi 9:27-54

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wow. Or should I say, Wo?

I'm not sure a clearer picture is illustrated of the dangers of sin, and the stark contrast between the earthly and eternal effects of sin and/or righteousness.

I am laying here, trying to feel the spirit of the chapter, and I must repent, for I feel that it is somewhat wasted on me today. (Initiate whine mode.)  I've come down with a cold- and it really stinks. My entire body aches- every joint and muscle!  It hurts to even have the the wind blow on me. I see the value in the doctrine, and am so grateful for it- but I don't have a lot in me to pontificate today.

I hope you can forgive me.  Perhaps you can make me feel better by sharing your favorite verses from this chapter. I know I haven't responded much lately, but I read and love every comment you post!

Thank you!

  1. This chapter is a good example of the great & terrible...but here are some of my favorites;
vs29 But to be learned is good if they harken unto the counsel's of God. (humble wisdom)
Vs49 Behold, my soul adhorreth sin and my heart delighteth in righteousness; ans I will praise the holy name of God.
vs51 Wherefore , do not spend money (or labor) for that which is of no worth...feast upon that which perisheth not. (great practical wisdom)
    vs52.... Let you hearts rejoice.
vs53...because of his grace & mercy...
Thanks be to God for Jacobs inspired, uplifting message that includes phrases that resonates with me and are beautiful reminders for great joy.

    Get better soon :)

  2. Verse 41: Proves that St. Peter is not the keeper of the gate.

Word for the day is "cunning": Having or showing skill in achieving one's ends by deceit or evasion. Deceit means: The action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth.

Bottom line, we think we know what Satan is doing and how, but we don't. Most don't. We think he's just working on us individually. He's not. There is the collective, organizational, governmental, global deceit that he is part of as well.

Jacob is pretty much at Elder Holland status after chapter 9. :)

  3. Didn't get a chance to comment yesterday... so catch up it is.

    Let your heart rejoice.

This part of the chapter is a pretty good summation of what's happening all around. The lines between good and evil are so gray out in the world. What is good is bad, right is wrong, sin is 'freedom and tolerance.' But, the chasm between the righteous and the wicked is becoming deeper and wider.

But no matter what... we can choose to let our heart rejoice. What a blessing!
