Happy Monday! On to the second half of Alma Jr.'s speech...
"The arms of mercy are extended towards all men..." (33) I love the way Alma uses imagery to teach! It pains a beautiful and very accessible picture.
I love the question Alma poses in verse 39: "If ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd, of what fold are ye?"
I tell my children there are only two sides, God and the Adversary's. There is no neutral ground. If you are not for God, you are against Him.
Many people don't like that. It's too 'harsh' for them. But it is true. Who's side are you on? Who's team are you playing for?
Alma testifies that his testimony was born not of the angel that appeared to him, but from the Holy Ghost (46). Miracles can make us think, but our testimonies come from personal revelation through the Holy Ghost.
I love his testimony in verse 48--It all comes down to Jesus Christ.

In asking the people what they aren't doing it reminds me of the things I need to be doing...

2. Put aside the vain things of the world
3. Hearken to Christ's calling me
4. Repent
5. Don't step on the spiritual things
6. Humility instead of pride
7. Don't buy in to the costly apparel and accolades of those who do
8. Be mindful of money but don't make it the focus
9. I am not better than others
10. Serve the poor and needy
11. Get my name written in the book of Life
12. Produce good fruit (hopefully in the garden as well as in life)
It's good to take stock sometimes and see how I am doing, I always find I have much to work on! But at least I am headed in the right direction most of the time.
